Sheikh Hasan Al-Saffar described on May 17, religious fanaticism as the worst kind of racism, explaining that it stemmed from the desire of domination and oppressing others in the name of religion.
During Friday sermon in Qatif, Eastern of Saudi Arabia, he criticized racist and sectarian attitudes against other national competencies because of their religious convictions.
Al-Saffar said that “racism is considered an offense and should be criminalized by law”, explaining that racist practices is stem out of egoism among some people who see themselves superior because of their ethnic or religious affiliation.
He added that “peoples’ religious convictions are not an excuse to abuse others who belong to other doctrine”; Pointing out that oppression and abuse practiced by some clergy toward inter- follower sect is the result of religious misconceptions.
Al-Saffar explained that any one has the right to defend his doctrine and beliefs but he doesn’t have the right to oppress other religious sects, considering repressing people on the pretext of religion is an unacceptable approach.
